Our Enrollment & Lottery Process

We’ve provided a simple outline of our enrollment and lottery process below, but for more details about each step, please see our official Enrollment Policy.

Step 1: Meet the District Residency Requirements

  • Enrollment is open to any child who resides inside or outside the Weld County RE-4 School District. Non-district resident students may be accepted for enrollment only after all resident students on the waiting list for the same grade have been offered a position.

Step 2: Submit a Letter of Intent

  • Each family must submit a Letter of Intent. Please make sure to include all children in your family on the form.

  • After you’ve completed a Letter of Intent, please email your form to Tammy Fagler, our Registrar, or drop it off at either Windsor Charter Academy school building. If you have any questions, please contact Tammy Fagler.

  • Once a Letter of Intent is submitted, your student will be placed on a waiting list. The waiting list is determined by the date and time a completed Letter of Intent is submitted to our Registrar.

  • Important Note: If you submit your Letter of Intent electronically, please download and save the completed form before emailing it to our office. If the form is not downloaded, it will submit a blank page.

  • Microsoft Word Version: If you have any issues with the form link above, please download this form in Microsoft Word. Once you print the form, fill it out, and scan it, please email it directly to Tammy Fagler.

Step 3: Participate in the Lottery Process

  • The enrollment lottery takes place every January to select students who are eligible to enroll every August. Students are entered into the lottery if their parents have filled out and submitted a Letter of Intent.

  • Windsor Charter Academy administrators conduct a Safe School Check for every prospective enrollee. Enrollment may not be offered if behavioral, attendance, credit requirements, or safety concerns exist. Based on Colorado State Statutes “CRS 22-36-101” and “CS 22-33-106,” there are specific reasons a public school might deny enrollment.

Step 4: Enroll Your Student (if selected)

  • If your child is selected in the lottery, you will receive a phone call and an email offering your child a position at the school. You will then need to formally accept the position to begin the enrollment process.

Kindergarten Age Requirements

A student may enter kindergarten if they are five years old on or before August 15th of the year of enrollment. If a child has completed a full year of a state-approved preschool program, they may enter kindergarten if they are five years old on or before October 1st of the year of enrollment.

We offer tuition-free kindergarten. Kindergarten students attend class Monday through Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 3:15 p.m.

Exceptional Student Services

Enrollment in charter schools is available to all students, including students with disabilities. Information about disabilities will not be requested until a student has been admitted and enrolled in a charter school. For questions regarding the admission and enrollment of students with disabilities in charter schools, please contact Jennifer Sedaghat, Director of Exceptional Student Services at Weld RE-4 School District, via email at jennifer.sedaghat@weldre4.org or Tammy Fagler, Student Data Services Manager & Registrar, at Windsor Charter Academy.

We appreciate the family-feel of Windsor Charter Academy, and doubled with their academic excellence, we don’t want to send our child anywhere else.
