Middle school is a time of growth, learning, and new opportunities, but it can also be overwhelming as students juggle school, extracurricular activities, and social time. As we look forward to the warmer weather and the school year’s end quickly approaching, it is a good time to remind us all about balance. Parents are essential in guiding their children toward a harmonious blend of success and well-being.
Here are a few ways to encourage balance in your child’s life:
Prioritize Rest & Downtime – Ensure your child gets enough sleep and has unstructured time to relax and recharge. Rest is essential for focus and emotional well-being.
Encourage Time Management – Help your child use a planner or calendar to keep track of assignments, practices, and activities. Setting routines can prevent last-minute stress.
Limit Overscheduling – While activities and sports are great, too many commitments can lead to burnout. Encourage your child to choose a few activities they truly enjoy.
Foster Open Communication – Check in with your child regularly about how they’re feeling. If they seem overwhelmed, work together to adjust their schedule.
Model Balance – Children learn from what they see! Show them the importance of taking breaks, making time for family, and managing responsibilities without stress.
Encouraging balance will help your child develop lifelong self-care and time-management skills. Please feel free to reach out if you have any concerns or need support.
Advisory Lessons
This month, in advisory, students learned about being an upstander, discussed I-Statements, and participated in a fun, relational “Would you rather play?” game. They also listened to a lesson on social media, completed kindness cards, and our student ambassadors did a lesson about teamwork. Sources of Strength members visited classrooms and conducted a fun lesson around students loving themselves!
