Battle of the Books fosters a culture of reading at our school! Battle of the Books is a fun Family Feud-style competition where teams of students compete against peer schools to test their knowledge of a selection of books! We will read and practice throughout the year and compete in a final competition in May.
Grade: Battle of the Books is open to 3rd, 4th, and 5th grade students. Teacher approval is required and students must meet AR goals while in the club.

Please note that our school library has limited books on hand, so students will be responsible for purchasing or checking out the books on the list. The reading list will have links to purchase books. Students can also find the books at one of our local libraries. Please make sure to reserve your copies at the library early because many Windsor schools are participating in this competition!

Meeting Dates & Times:
Initial Meetings:
3rd Grade: Thursday, November 16th and Thursday, December 14th from 3:05 to 3:45 p.m.
4th Grade: Tuesday, November 14th and Tuesday, December 12th from 3:05 to 3:45 p.m.
5th Grade: Wednesday, November 15th and Wednesday, December 13th from 3:05 to 3:45 p.m.
Regular Practice Meetings:
3rd Grade: Every Thursday from 3:05 to 3:45 p.m. beginning January 25th
4th Grade: Every Tuesday from 3:05 to 3:45 p.m. beginning January 23rd
5th Grade: Every Wednesday from 3:05 to 3:45 p.m. beginning January 24th
Practices will not be held on holidays and will end after the final competition in late April.
Final Competition: Students will compete in the final competition at Clearview Library District. The date for the final competition will be announced in spring 2024.

Cost: There is no cost to participate in this club.
Team T-Shirts: Team t-shirts can be purchased for $18 by clicking the link above. T-shirts are optional. T-shirts can be worn at the competition and as regular Firebird spirit wear!

Donate: Battle of the Books is a program that offers 3rd, 4th, and 5th grade students the opportunity to read. This program is free to all participants but donations are always appreciated! Donations will go towards purchasing copies of books for our students to check out from the library and hosting an end-of-competition event for our readers.
