At Windsor Charter Academy, we encourage students to cultivate resilience. Over the past year, students have faced numerous obstacles to their learning and social lives and they have persevered through these obstacles. To help foster their ability to be resilient, we integrate the 7 C’s from Fostering Resilience:
Competence: WCA provides opportunities for support when students struggle. We encourage students to adopt a growth mindset and understand that “Failure Leads to Success” - one of the 8 Keys of Excellence - is a necessary ingredient for continuous improvement.
Confidence: Confidence is like a muscle that continuously needs to be strengthened. Confidence gives students the ability to better know themselves and to define their place in the world.
Connection: Teachers and staff members get to know students beyond the classroom and can serve as trusted adults in their lives.
Character: Integrity - another one of the 8 Keys of Excellence - is a character trait we value and encourage students to showcase in their daily lives.
Contribution: At WCA, it’s important that our students feel a sense of belonging and have a connection to their community. Through peer support groups, weekly lunch events, and volunteerism, students build relationships and foster connections within their community.
Coping: Stress and conflict impact all students throughout their lives. Healthy coping skills can help students navigate these situations. Through Sources of Strength, students know where they can access support during challenging times.
Control: Students yearn for more responsibility as they get older. WCA provides opportunities for students to control their choices and actions. By giving students control now, they are more likely to develop into responsible decision makers.
From February 14th through 20th, students will celebrate Random Acts of Kindness Week. The Random Acts of Kindness website has various activities to participate in and provide monthly calendars to continue the spirit of giving throughout the year!
