November 2021 Bond Initiative: Firebird Facility

Windsor Charter Academy is embarking on a new and exciting campaign to build a new Firebird Facility! Our proposed facility includes STEM and home economics classrooms, a high school commons area, a weight room, a competitive gymnasium and soccer field, and expanded parking.

November 2021 Bond Initiative: A bond for this facility, and other facilities within the Weld Re-4 school district, will be on the November 2021 election ballot. On August 30, 2021, the Weld RE-4 School Board unanimously voted to refer the bond and Mill Levy Override initiatives to the November 2021 ballot.

Windsor Charter Academy has a strong relationship with the Weld RE-4, our authorizing school district. Strong relationships between charter schools and authorizing districts are rare, and charter schools are not often included in district bond initiatives. Windsor Charter Academy’s inclusion on this bond initiative is a testament to our long-standing, positive partnership with Weld RE-4.

Please remember to vote this November!

The Need: Windsor Charter Academy has expanded its middle and high school and has experienced an increase in enrollment in both schools. In addition, our high school was recently approved to participate in the Colorado High School Activities Association (CHSAA) which requires our school to have competitive gym and field spaces. By expanding our athletic facilities, and expanding our STEM and home economics classrooms, we can offer additional opportunities for our students.

  • Student Growth: In the Weld Re-4 School District, growth in student enrollment is aligned with new neighborhood developments. In 2020, the number of single-family home permits in Windsor, Severance, and West Greeley alone (1,400) rivaled that of those granted in Wellington, Loveland, Fort Collins, and Timnath combined (1,500). • Increase School Capacity: To meet the needs of our growing student population, Windsor Charter Academy seeks to provide additional learning spaces and add additional indoor and outdoor physical education facilities. The design of the Firebird Facility is intended to be a phased approach and will serve as an anchor for future bond projects.

The Investment: The proposed expansion for Windsor Charter Academy’s Firebird Facility is estimated to be $14.5M. If the proposed bond measure passes, there will be a potential tax impact for residents and businesses. The estimated tax impact for residents and business is outlined here.
