Windsor Charter Academy has been offered the opportunity to run the Water Valley Corn Maze this year! Our school clubs and organizations will be using this event as a fundraiser for our school. The maze will be open every Friday and Saturday in October from 5:00 to 10:00 p.m. On October 28th, 29th, and 30th the maze will be open from 5:00 to 10:00 p.m. (5:00 to 7:00 p.m. will be child friendly). Students and volunteers will facilitate different activities throughout the maze. All funds collected will go directly to Windsor Charter Academy clubs and organizations.
We are asking for various donations, including: decorations, inflatables, candy, costumes, and time from our Firebird families. More details regarding the maze and volunteer opportunities can be found below.
Corn Maze Information:
The Water Valley Corn Maze is located just east of Ted’s Sweetwater Grill & Trout Pond.
There are six "stations" within the maze that need to be managed by one or two people during each volunteer shift.
WCA clubs and organizations will be “hosting” each weekend. If you volunteer to participate, you will be contacted by that club’s organizer to receive more detailed instructions for that day.
From 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. each weekend evening, stations will be geared toward younger kids and families, i.e., Halloween stories, crafts, hot chocolate, popcorn, etc.
From 7:00 to 10:00 p.m. stations will be geared toward a slightly older crowd - with props that are more frightening and intended to scare.
Middle and high school students and their families are encouraged to sign up for these volunteer opportunities. All volunteer hours will count towards a student’s school volunteer hours or a family’s volunteer hours.
Elementary school families can also participate in the event by donating needed items for the maze.
Donated Items Needed for Maze:
Candy - any type of Halloween candy or small trinkets/toys to hand out to visitors. These will be mainly for younger children earlier in the evenings.
Decorations - any type of Halloween, harvest, or fall decorations and props are needed for the entrance area as well as for the inside of the maze.
Popcorn Kernels - WCA has a popcorn machine that will be used at the corn maze. We are in need of popcorn kernels and oil for the popcorn machine.
Costumes/Props - Any and all costumes and props that could be donated for use by older students and adults; these can be scary or not scary.
Covered Trailer - Since our student clubs will be volunteering every weekend in October, we would be grateful if a family or business would be willing to park their covered trailer at the Water Valley Corn Maze site. The trailer would be used for the entire month of October to store supplies.
All donated items can be dropped off at the high school office.
All donations can be counted towards volunteer hours. Remember, every $10 donated is an equivalent of one hour of volunteer time. If a covered and lockable trailer is donated for the month, it would satisfy a family's entire volunteer requirement for the year.
