We are excited to announce that on Monday, August 15th, the Weld RE-4 School District Board of Education approved the placement of a bond measure and mill levy override on the November 8th, 2022 general election ballot. If approved by voters, the funding from the bond measure will be used to construct a variety of school facility projects in the Weld RE-4 School District. Windsor Charter Academy is included in the package, and if the ballot measure passes in November, we will be able to build the Firebird Facility.
Bond Measure: WCA Firebird Facility
The proposed $18M Firebird Facility is part of Weld RE-4 School District’s $271M bond measure. The Firebird Facility will include a gymnasium for physical education and athletics, additional classrooms and learning spaces, a high school commons area, a soccer field, and expanded parking.
The Need:
New classrooms and learning spaces would allow our students to have additional course options, expanding their learning opportunities.
Currently, two schools share a single gym space. This reality is unlike other middle and high schools. On any given day, thirteen PE classes utilize one gym space, with multiple classes occurring at the same time. Adding a gym would allow our middle and high schools to each have their own gym.
Our high school was recently approved to participate in the Colorado High School Activities Association (CHSAA) which requires our school to have competitive gym and field spaces. By expanding our facilities, we can offer our students regulation-sized basketball and volleyball courts, as well as an expanded soccer field.
Currently, our middle and high school sports teams share a single gym for all sports practices. Oftentimes, our teams have to travel to the elementary school to use their gym for practices, which is also used for after-school intramural sports programs for our younger students. Having additional gym space allows our students to have access to practice facilities at their own school.
A high school commons area would allow for our students to have additional meeting spaces for collaborative learning, a place to eat lunch, and for student clubs.
Increasing enrollment in our high school means we have additional high school drivers, making it necessary to expand our parking.

Mill Levy Override
If approved by voters, the Weld RE-4 School District will receive an additional $5 million annually, with a proportional share going to Windsor Charter Academy based on funded student count. These funds would be utilized to recruit and retain high quality teachers, as well as fund the startup costs associated with new facilities.
District Partnerships
Windsor Charter Academy has a strong relationship with the Weld RE-4, our authorizing school district. Strong relationships between charter schools and authorizing districts are rare, and charter schools are not often included in district bond initiatives. Windsor Charter Academy’s inclusion on previous and current bond initiatives is a testament to our long-standing, positive partnership with Weld RE-4 School District!
