Colorado Proud School Meal Day at Windsor Charter Academy
October 1st was Colorado Proud School Meal Day! Sponsored by the Colorado Departments of Agriculture and Education, this day highlights Colorado's agriculture and promotes healthy eating in schools. To celebrate, Jeannine Davison, Director of Food Services, invited the Executive Board to eat lunch with local farmers and business owners who supply fresh ingredients for our farm-to-school program. We ate delicious beef tacos made with ingredients from our incredible partners!
Beef from Colorado Custom Meat Company in Kersey
Tortillas from Tortilleria La Exitosa in Evans
Sweet corn and onions from On the Vine at Richmond Farms in Fort Collins
Organic apples from Ela Farms in Hotchkiss
Carrots from Hungenberg Produce in Greeley
Peppers, tomatoes, cilantro, and cherry tomatoes fresh from our school garden
Did you know that 85% of our school meals are made from scratch daily? We are proud of how the Food Services Department, under the direction of Ms. Davison, has developed over the last several years. We appreciate our local farmers and business owners for providing us with fresh, tasty ingredients and joining us for lunch to celebrate!
November Ballot Measure
An education-related measure is on the November ballot. Amendment 80/Initiative 138: Constitutional Right to School Choice proposes amending the Colorado Constitution, which requires 55% of the vote to pass. The Colorado General Assembly provides a full overview of the proposed initiative.
